Drink that water

Dehydration leads to headaches, exhaustion and fatigue – stressful stuff! The Natural Hydration Council surveyed 300 GPs and found 1 in 5 patients see a doctor with symptoms that can be caused by dehydration. Try and drink about 2 litres of water a day to keep the doctor away.

Get plenty of sleep

Any new parent can testify to just how stressful tiredness is. It leads to lack of concentration, weakened immune system and a higher risk of obesity. The NHS estimate 1 in 3 suffer from poor sleep. To help you sleep better, avoid alcohol and fatty foods before bed and don’t watch TV or use a phone (or tablet) in bed. Stay away from the use of controlled substances too. If you are an addict, check out this Tampa substance abuse centre to know who it can help in turning your life around. But most New York City commuters, consider Garden Heights Recovery. This centre is a recognized leader in outpatient addiction treatment services, and can help you or a loved one deal with and overcome addiction.

Don’t overdo the caffeine

Heartburn, jitters and anxiety can occur when you drink too much coffee. This in turn can have a negative impact on your sleep and hydration levels, and this – you guessed it – increases stress. So after 3pm, swap that latte for a healthy smoothie.

And breathe

Regular breathing exercises can help calm your mind and body. Deep breathing in through the nose and out through the mouth for just 3 minutes a day will help to reduce your stress levels.

Healthy eating

Junk food weakens the immune system and can be very addictive, high-sugar food will leave you feeling groggy and unproductive. This all increases the likelihood of you
suffering from stress. Snack smart and watch your portion sizes.

Meditate

Every morning or evening, take a moment to sit down, close your eyes and relax. Zen living will help keep depression, anger, fatigue and stress at bay.

Exercise

Exercise releases endorphins (the happiness chemical) in the brain. A 2008 study concluded that mood and output at work is 27% higher on exercise days. Hit the gym on your lunch break or at the very least go for a walk to reinvigorate your day.
